About Mick
Mick started his 'coffee journey' at a large commercial coffee
company. This turned out to be a good place for him to
discover that there is a whole world behind coffee.
He wanted to learn more about it, which led him to a specialty
coffee bar in Amsterdam on the Overtoom. A good school where
he also got to know the coffee roasting process.
Apart from deepening his knowledge of the product itself, Mick
discovered more and more about the social side of coffee and
the coffeehouse. This ultimately motivated him to start his
own business, which first led to a mobile coffee bar and
eventually to a shop in Amsterdam.

About Leon
Interestingly enough, Léon started his 'coffee journey' at the
same company and on the same team as Mick, but two weeks after
Mick left. During that time, he learned a lot about coffee and
specialty coffee, but realized that he wouldn't be able to
further develop himself in that aspect of the trade at that
company.
This led to part-time work at a decent coffee shop in
Amsterdam, many freelance gigs at events and other coffee
shops, and a course of study to obtain multiple
professional-level SCA diplomas.
Eventually, he made the transition to a specialty coffee shop
that is even well-known beyond the country's borders. Here, he
had the opportunity to acquire a lot of knowledge, make many
contacts with other professionals in the specialty coffee
world, and develop his own identity in the coffee industry.

Our journey
Welcome at Mick & Leon
During this period, we regularly bumped into each other,
started working together more often, and gradually became good
friends. When we both moved to Haarlem around the same time
and Mick opened a tiny shop there, it seemed almost inevitable
that our collaboration would expand.
Leon slowly became more involved with the project as a
freelancer until we decided in mid-2021 to formalize our
partnership and let the business grow.
This has led to Coffee Habits now being open seven days a
week, with a larger team, using beautiful coffees that we
prepare with cool machines, and sharing our knowledge and
enthusiasm through workshops.
